A reader told me that my new release, The Signature, was like a Danielle Steel book...

"And she meant it as a compliment."

I don't know what to think about that. This in no way is an opinion on Danielle Steel. My only opinion of her is that the woman is a publishing marvel. I've never read one of her books, and it has nothing to do with her work, but rather that pesky thing called "large family dynamic".

I have four brothers and in the 80s & 90s I had four sisters-in-law.  We were all avid readers. In those days there were no 500 cable channels, the only video games was something called in-television and it had like two games, Burger Time and NHL hockey, we all had small children, and, for all that we girls had significant professional careers, life was still a little bit like Ozzie and Harriet. On the weekends the guys golfed, had lunch, and played video games all day. The girls got together with the kids, hung out by the pool or at the beach, watched the kids play and chatted and read. We had sort of a low budget book club going on by the pool. We didn't all read the same books or discuss them, we read together, and when you finished you tossed them into a grocery bag and when the bag was full you swapped the bag with one of the sister-in-laws.

My sister-in-law number four I adored, it wouldn't be right to say her name...Brenda....
and she was into all that rough and tough alpha male historical romance like Johanna Lindsey books. My sister in law number two, we didn't get along so well, it wouldn't be right to tell you her name so I'll give you the letters to unscramble....nope can't do that, too easy, five letters and one of them is a J!  She was into  Mary Higgins Clark and Danielle Steel. And sister in law number 2, well, her opinions were "the" opinions. So irritating, and I never wanted to read anything she read because I didn't want to risk liking it and having something in common with her. So I've never read a Mary Higgins Clark or a Danielle Steel book.

So  here is my dilemma: do I read something by Danielle Steel to figure out what my reader meant? I'll have to think that one through. I'm not ready at this age to find something in common with J...Oops I almost said her name.

My new book, The Signature, is on free download until July 5th, and I'm really glad that my first release, The Girl on the Half Shell is doing well.
How does Danielle Steel managed to look so wonderful after completing like a gazillion releases? I'm only through 2 or 26 to release and I'm starting to look like swamp thing....
