| The actual preparing of the release process is getting easier, but I still feel like Rosanne Rosanadana. If it's not one thing, it's another: cover art isn't right size, the edited file came in with the wrong edits or the formatting lost, or stupid me I upload wrong everything or I'm on the phone with work, I'm writing great stuff in my head, and instead of answering the client's question I start to mumble, and Jacques moans while Felicity flutters...No, I would never write that, but it's true: If it's not one thing, it's another. I have nothing but respect for Indie Authors going it alone and making things happen. It's incredibly hard work. I've decided, I'm pretty much going to be a crazy woman for the next 20 months. I've realized that, because me and technology and work and home and kids and...whew, no more 'and'. They're exhausting me. Well, got Rewind up on 8/5, a birthday present for my beautiful daughter Tracy, and if I don't scream I should probably have One Last Kiss up by the end of August. Blogging late today. I have a new release tomorrow...#amreading #blogging #author #amwriting8/5/2014 I like to blog first thing in the morning. Just dump whatever I have in my head right out here when I wake up. I think it makes for a happier marriage now that I don't talk about first thing in the morning thoughts.
But I've been busy and have a new release coming out tomorrow...shush, it's a surprise. Special little thing I did for a special reason. Anyway, chugging along on my journey to release my 26 books in 24 months; however the voice inside my head won't be quite and I've got six WIP projects and somehow ended up releasing my first ever Novella: Rewind. Still, it's just starting to feel like I might really get my crazy release schedule accomplished. Next release a special giveaway: Susan's drink while you read festivities. My favorite California wine and a new California Book Release. Details to come later this month. Anyway, if the phone would stop ringing I might be able to accomplish something today! I love Jack Nicholson. A Few Good Men: You can't handle the truth...#blogging #author #amwriting #8/4/2014
In The Girl on the Half Shell I have a minor character that's on the page for about two seconds: Steve the Valet. OK, we've all known this guy, the sort of cute really nice a touch nerdy guy, who has absolutely the worst after school job. In Santa Barbara, that was being the valet at the airport(I know it's usually called the porter, but here it's Valet. It said it on the wooden Valet stand). The SB airport use to be the size of a track home. It was only about five feet from the curb at the drop off loop into the baggage check/ticket counter. So, being the valet was sort of a job in name only, a living statue so to speak. Dress in your valet suit, stand at the wooden valet stand, and look official while everyone brushes right passed you with their bags.
Now I'm not saying that I have a friend or family member who was the valet at the SB airport. I'm not saying that my girlfriends and I used to drive out there and make fun of him. I'm not saying that the highlight of month for the Valet was carrying John Travolta's bags as he flew in and out of SB because John is a nice chatty guy, however he never tipped. And I'm not saying that the highlight of this kid's job was the one tip he remembers. A hundred dollar bill from a famous musician traveling a la Lear Jet, that he didn't recognize and when he described we all teased him because it was Joe Cocker, and like who doesn't know he lives in SB and recognize him. I'm not saying any of that. What I am saying is that I do have a brother named Steve and he borrowed my car once and let it burn up on the 101 half way from SB to LA and just left it there. I'm not saying that this is evening the score. I'm just letting you know, my brother's name is Steve. 7 days ago I posted a blurb to tease my princess daughter: writing a story about a super achieving California girl who marries a dog trainer and moves to the middle of nowhere, and darn if 7 days later it isn't actually a novella. It was just my quirky sense of humor, me being irritating mom, but it flowed really well onto paper, I couldn't stop it and I like it. So I've now officially completed 26 books 2 novellas.
Someone once asked me how did you think of so many stories to write? The writing process is tough to explain. Sometimes it's just a joke that won't let you go and demands to become a story. Sometimes you wake up and it's all there out of nowhere. And sometimes it's something locked deep inside of you, a piece of your life or history, and it jumps up and says write me so you can make it go away. I never know when there is going to be a story; it comes from nowhere and then it's there. Thursday night of Fiesta at the McKenzie Park El Mercado it's youth band night on the main stage. A famous SB musician arranges a block of time for the kid bands to play from 2-9p.m. It's a never miss event for my husband and me. We started going to see the band of a kid of a friend of ours: Official Breakdown. It's fun to watch the change as the kids grow up.
The first time I saw them, I told my friend, you are in trouble. Their boy is a total rock star on the drums--Like David Grohl and Lars good--and the kid is surfer good looking: long blond hair, big brights eyes, hair tossing while wielding those sticks. My friend is going to have fun with this kid as the boy gets older. They are only thirteen now. Apparently there is something called Rock Camp now in Santa Barbara run by the drummer of Dishwalla and these kids are turned into little professional rock musicians. Amazing. Total professions, complete stage presence, amazing talent and they are not even out of high school. You should check it out sometime. Heard some great talent, great music, got to sit on the grass on a beautiful SB Night, you have to go into the drinking zone to drink nowadays, which is a bummer, but overall just a wonderful evening. Where else can you have a really good time for next to nothing and listen to wickedly talented kids play Hendrix at an Old Spanish Days Festival. Fun Night! |
