While I have wonderfully loyal readers--so many read everything I release-- sometimes one of my historical readers will pick of a contemporary, and go holy moly is this still Susan? My writing style changes. My voice changes. How I write sex changes. And how I think of love and romance changes. But what never changes, is how I think of women. Each heroine is unique and has something to say about the challenges of being a woman in their era.
Still, the multiple genre things is tough. Every Indie builds a structure to promote their work. Blogs-page postings-tweet families( gosh thank you so much everyone in twitter world who helps me along the way). But not every blog or page works for every kind of work. I've learned that the hard way.
After releasing Love's Patient Fury in December, I switched back to my contemporary series to finish writing them and my historical romances started to slowly decline in sales. Maintaining a relationship with those readers has been a challenge. They do not cross paths with me when I'm out promoting my contemporary work.
So, I am thrilled that over 5000 readers have downloaded my pirates during the first 2 days of my free amazon promotion. Varian, my hero, was getting lonely. Varian loves women. He's so happy to be with you all in your Kindles.
I wish I could share a magic recipe for how to successfully market your work in multiple genres all at once. I haven't figured it out yet. Even as I count down to 1 year as an Indie, I'm still learning along the way.
Oh...and today I hit a big milestone I set for my first year as an Indie when I started 5/13/2014. So check back in. I've got something special coming your way Sunday to say thank you to my wonderful readers.
As ever I wish you Peace.
